We get a lot of questions from our advocates about up-to-date statistics. Where do we go? These 5 places are where we always go first and are easy for you to get the latest facts too!
- Our #1 stop for comprehensive statistics for the past 2 years: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) Monthly Humanitarian Bulletin from December 2013. It has comprehensive statistics for the year 2013 in comparison to 2012.
- Need more up to date than that? Each week, UNOCHA’s Protection of Civilians Report gives up-to-date statistics from 2014 in comparison with 2013.
- Are you focusing on children and the affects of Israeli occupation? Defence for Children International is the place to go. Check out their Detentions bulletin, Statistics and Publications.
- For the most comprehensive and up-to-date statistics on water, check out EWASH’s website, especially their publications.
- Last, but not least, UNOCHA’s fact sheets offer statistics, case studies, and maps on many topics not included here.

3 of the 5 “top sources” are one and the same – UNOCHA. So I count just 3 resources, all with a notoriously pro-Arab bias. Not what I call independent, reliable sources.
We listed resources. Yes 3 come from the same source, but the resource is different and we wanted to describe the difference. We advocate for a solution to this conflict based on international law and UN resolutions. For that reason, we use United Nations Resources. We also use resources of other organizations which base their work on international law.
The U.N. General Assembly in 2013 adopted a total of 21 resolutions singling out Israel for criticism — and 4 resolutions on the rest of the world combined.
In that light I would avoid using any UN-related sources on the topic as they are obviously fundamentally biased against Israel and are completely unreliable. Independent sources with a proven track record in other conflict zones should be used instead.
